KIA Optima Tie rod for other cars

What is a steering tie rod?

A steering tie rod is a crucial control element, connecting the steering mechanism and the tie rod end. The system of rods, known as the steering trapezium, ensures the wheels turn at the necessary angles. The condition of all its components directly affects the precision of vehicle control and, consequently, driving safety. The price of a steering tie rod depends on the class and model of the vehicle, the materials used in its manufacture, and the manufacturer's brand.

How to recognize a faulty steering tie rod

The best way to identify suspension problems is through diagnostics of the chassis at a service station. However, any driver can notice the initial symptoms. These include:

  • dull knocks in the steering mechanism;
  • steering wheel play;
  • creaking when turning the steering wheel;
  • vibrations while driving;
  • the steering wheel doesn't return to its original position.

If any of these signs appear, it's best to check the condition of the steering tie rods as soon as possible. Their wear leads to misalignment of the wheels, which threatens to worsen the vehicle's handling and cause premature tire wear - their edges begin to wear against the road surface.

Causes of steering tie rod failure

The failure of this part can be the result of several factors:

  1. Deformation of the steering rack.
  2. Excessive wear of the joint.

The first case is quite rare; disruption of the tie rod's geometry can only occur as a result of a strong impact - during an accident or hitting a high obstacle. As a rule, the consequences will be felt immediately after the event - the car may pull to one side, foreign sounds may occur, or there may be difficulties in turning the steering wheel.

Gradual wear of the ball joint is a more likely reason why the steering tie rod will require replacement. This can be accelerated by premature destruction of the polymer coating of the ball, poor quality of lubricant, or its absence. The latter is often caused by damage to the protective covers of the tie rod - the dust boots.

Which brand of lateral steering tie rod is the best?

The choice of this part is determined by the car brand (for example, Audi or Toyota) and the manufacturer's specialization. Based on sales indicators, the following list of the most popular brands among buyers can be compiled:

  • FEBI BILSTEIN
  • TRW
  • SKF
  • RIDEX
  • MOOG

These and other steering tie rods can always be purchased at a favorable price from us at STS.Parts.

Repair and replacement of the steering tie rod

Replacing a faulty steering tie rod with a new one is not the most difficult task. This requires mechanical skills, tools (including special pullers), a lift (or inspection pit and a reliable jack). It's best to work with an assistant. It's worth noting that installing a new part without disrupting the wheel alignment settings is practically impossible. After replacing the tie rod, tie rod end, or any other part of the steering mechanism, it's mandatory to perform a wheel alignment.

Therefore, for repair purposes, it's easier and simpler to turn to professionals - for example, to us. The mechanics at STS.Parts will replace the steering tie rod, adjust the wheel angles, and perform any other work quickly, qualitatively, and reliably. We provide a 6-month warranty on all our services and spare parts.
